Google Photos reminded me today of a photo taken exactly 20 years ago — on January 27, 2006. At that time, I was in my final year of high school (11th grade).
Back then, I was building old computers based on i386 and i486 processors, including AMD versions.
These photos show the computer powered by an AMD Am486DX4-100.

One of my classmates somehow got a bunch of old, discarded, non-working computers, and I assembled a few working ones out of them. I really enjoyed tinkering with hardware.
I built one of these computers for a friend who couldn’t afford to buy a new one. I installed Windows 95 and an old version of Microsoft Office. He could play only classic DOS games on it. Even back then, this computer was already a dinosaur.
Today, I wouldn’t mind having one at home, just to play classic games without emulators.
It was an interesting time. I still feel nostalgic for the crunchy sound of floppy drives and the clicking and grinding noises of old hard drives.
Does anyone else miss the “turbo” button?
